Crawford County Fire Updates

As many of you may already know, there were a couple of large forest fires burning in Crawford and Kalkask Counties that began yesterday. From what we understand, the one that began at Camp Grayling was put under control late yesterday evening, but had reached The Manistee River right around where Portage Creek enters. The fire that is the largest and still burning strong is known as The Meridian Fire. It's already consumed 7,500 acres by some accounts. There is a great map of the outline of this fire on the Wilfire Today site. Here are a couple of links if you want to track the progress of the fires. I took the photo above yesterday around 5:30 from Smith Bridge on The AuSable River's South Branch.
