Consider The AuSable River North Branch

Just below Morley Road on the lower North Branch
We're very fortunate in northern Michigan to have a number of world class trout streams to choose from.  The Boardman, Manistee, Pere Marquette and AuSable are just a few of the most notable.  The North Branch of The AuSable is one of the main arms of the AuSable watershed and would be among the top streams in the country if it were independent of the other branches.  Originating in Otsego and northern Crawford Counties, The North Branch winds it's way for more than 25 miles before entering the mainstream of The AuSable about 18 miles east of Grayling.  21 miles of the river, from The Sheep ranch near Lovells to the confluence is regulated as flies only water.  This is truly exceptional water flowing over a mostly gravel bottom through a broad river corridor making for easy fly casting.  The river gains size and strength as it takes on small tributary creeks, consumes ground water through lowland areas and welcomes a good flow of water from Big Creek.

Another very desirable aspect of The North Branch is it's lack of commercial canoe traffic.  Shallow water in
the upper reaches and lack of access points in the lower river also limit fishing pressure relative to other branches of The AuSable.  If you're someone who likes dry fly fishing, The North Branch is typically the first to see any of the major hatches each year including Hendricksons, Sulphurs and Brown Drakes.  Widely known for the huge numbers of aggressive brook trout, making it a favorite of beginning anglers, The North Branch also holds some true trophy fish even in its upper reaches.

If you haven't considered The North Branch as an option, put it on your list to fish and as your possible next home or cabin location.  Here are some terrific properties currently available from Homewaters on The North Branch.  Just click the link for each to view full details including property photos, descriptions and maps of each location.
