I was in a meeting the other day with a Realtor who mainly works in Grand Traverse County and we were comparing markets. While her market is very urban my market - predominately Kalkaska County - is rather rural even though we are only a half hour away from Traverse City. She feels Kalkaska is a hidden gem!! I feel that way also. We are almost 50% state land and boast 90 lakes and 3 rivers plus numerous streams in our county. We have fewer subdivisions but many acreage parcels with lovely homes or waterfront properties. Five of the cleanest lakes in the state of Michigan are in Kalkaska County, We boast the Manistee River, Boardman River and the Rapid River as prime recreational areas. We also have the southern end of Torch Lake in our county with some of the best waterfront on that entire lake.
