Ask just about anyone which is their favorite Northern Michigan lake and Torch and Elk will likely be one of those mentioned repeatedly. Whether it's the spectacular water quality, deep blue and aquamarine color to the water or the incredible boating opportunities, these are two of the truly spectacular lakes in our great state. There is another lake, however, that sometimes goes overlooked. Lake Skegemog is that big lake everyone sees on M-72 as they're heading into Traverse City. It's perfectly located between Torch and Elk and provides perhaps the best location for boating to all three and the other lakes in The Antrim County Chain of Lakes. From Lake Skegemog, you're a quick run up The Torch River into the South end of Torch Lake and the famous Sandbar and just a bit further to The Dockside restaurant on The Clam River. Head the other direction and you're into Elk Lake and on your way to dining and shopping in Elk Rapids. Better yet, you can comfortably swim in the slightly warmer waters of Lake Skegemog weeks earlier than either Torch or Elk. If you're a water skier or wake boarder, Torch and Elk are rarely calm enough to really enjoy your craft. Lake Skegemog, on the other hand, remains calm on all but the most windy days. A nice sandy bottom and a predominance of nice deep wooded lots make this a lake worth considering. We recently listed this classic 3 bedroom cabin on the West shore of Lake Skegemog that offers a terrific number of features that are tough to find in the sub $500,000 price range. A nice deep wooded parcel, beautiful level access to the water, spectacular sand beach, great architectural character and an ideal location for boating. The drive into the property down Skegemog Point Road is one of the most charming in the area with huge hardwoods forming a wonderful canopy of the lane. It's a great place to take your morning walk. Maybe best of all is the ease of access to Traverse City or points South via M-72. click any of the photos to view the details on this property and get in touch with us at your convenience to learn more about Lake Skegemog or other bodies of water in the area.
